When ‘Less is More’ Doesn’t Apply: The African Design Way

I have often wondered why arts and designs created in Africa went against the norm of using less elements.

I didn’t understand it.
African art is expressive, it’s loud, it talks, it speaks to you. It’s not shy, hiding away behind blank lines and opaque mirrors.

It’s conversational; it’s works explain themselves.

It’s proportional. Foreign critics called it “expressionistic”

But in school today, we are taught that “less is more”, that’s one of the parameters governing Minimalist architecture.

This “minimalism” is also attributed to the Western culture.

In African architecture, “more is adequate“.

Now am conflicted.
Please don’t ask me which one I prefer.
